Alvarado hosted its annual Colorguard solo and ensemble contest and seven high school students have advanced to the state solo and ensemble competition this weekend at Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield after earning a first division rating and scoring a 90 or above.
Of the seven who qualified, three are competing in multiple events. Evan Murr and Leighton Meyer advanced to state with their solo and two duets. Erika Foster will be competing in two duets – one with Murr and one with Meyer.
Also advancing were Indra Hernandez and Mallory Sauter as a duet while Koy Barnes and Hannah Underwood qualified for state as soloist.
“Our students once again exceeded my expectations performing at the highest levels not only as performers, but with some choreography that they came up with themselves,” coach Estelle Murr said. “Their creativity is to be commended. Although Mr. Davis and I helped them tweak parts of their routines, this effort qualifying for state was almost exclusively student based.”
